THE ORIGIN OF SIDOARJO REGENCY, EAST JAVA

Assalamualaikum

Sidoarjo Regency is a regency in East Java Province, Indonesia. The capital city is
Sidoarjo. This regency is bordered by Surabaya City and Gresik Regency in the north, Madura Strait in the east, Pasuruan Regency in the south, and Mojokerto Regency in the west. Together with Gresik, Sidoarjo is one of the main buffer cities of Surabaya, and is included in the Gerbangkertosusila region.
Sidoarjo used to be known as the center of the Kingdom of Janggala. During the Dutch East Indies colonialism, the Sidoarjo area was named Sidokare, which was part of the Surabaya Regency. The Sidokare area is led by a governor named R. Ng. Djojohardjo, who lives in Pucang Anom village, is assisted by a district officer, Bagus Ranuwiryo, who lives in Pangabahan village.
In 1859, based on the Dutch East Indies Government Decree No. 9/1859 on 31 January 1859 Staatsblad No. 6, the Surabaya Regency area is divided into two parts namely Surabaya Regency and Sidokare Regency. Sidokare was led by R. Notopuro (later titled R.T.P. Tjokronegoro) who came from Kasepuhan. He is the son of R.A.P. Tjokronegoro, Regent of Surabaya.
