Assalamualaikum
The
Government of Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, wants each village to have an
integrated waste treatment facility (TPST) so that the volume of waste that
enters the landfill decreases.
"Because
at the TPST the garbage will be selected, processed, before finally being sent
to a landfill," said Sidoarjo Deputy Regent Nur Ahmad Syaifuddin after
receiving a visit from the German Delegation in Sidoarjo on Thursday.
"By
processing it first, the amount of waste can be reduced by up to 60 percent
before it is sent to the Final Disposal Site (TPA)," said Nur Ahmad, who
is usually called Cak Nur.
He
said that Sidoarjo Regency now only has 136 TPST, not yet half of the number of
villages around 350.
"The
reason from the village government is having difficulty in obtaining land that
will be used as a garbage collection place," he said.
He
also explained that the German Delegation visited Sidoarjo to discuss
cooperation in handling waste with the Sanitary Landfill system at the TPA in
Jabon Sidoarjo.
"Currently
the construction process is underway and it is expected that by 2020 it can be
operated immediately," he said.
Tutuk
Ekawati as a companion to Emission Reduction in Cities - Solid Waste Management
(ERIC-SWM) said that he was tasked with supporting efforts to increase the
capacity of waste management, starting from building community awareness to
sort waste from the house to training on its management.
"We are working
with the Department of Environment and Hygiene in Sidoarjo Regency. The aim is
to implement a government regulation that states that waste entering the
landfill is only 30 percent by 2025," he said.
